Welcome to the upcoming 2nd year of Thistlebrook Natives.

Thank you for your support in our inaugural year.  The last few months have brought many changes, including a new address and a new job (apart from growing plants) at the environmental education farm in which I work.  We now live on the property of Hard Bargain Farm, belonging to the Alice Ferguson Foundation and I have become the Children’s Garden gardener, caring for our new half-acre children’s vegetable garden as well as our laying flock of nearly 100 hens.

I continue to work at building the nursery’s inventory of herbaceous plant species and will be adding to the plant list as we move closer towards spring.   Rest assured that all of our plants are nursery propagated and none are collected from the wild.

I am available for consultations at your home site, though I am not a landscape designer.  My strength is in being familiar with and able to suggest plants for specific site conditions and I am happy to work with you in designing your landscape or with a design that someone else has created. Many times there are wonderful native perennials, trees and shrubs that can well serve as lovely native alternatives to ornamental exotic plants.

I am also available to present programs or workshops about landscaping with native plants, emphasizing the beauty and  benefits of creating a home landscape that supports the ecological life of the local region.

Plant Sales and Business Hours

Look for us at the 2012 Parkfairfax Native Plant Sale on April 28 from 9-2 in Alexandria, VA.  Please see link for details and directions http://home.earthlink.net/~sknudsen/index.html

We will also be at the Alice Ferguson Spring Farm Festival at Hard Bargain Farm in Accokeek, MD on May 5th from 11-4.  Please see link  http://www.fergusonfoundation.org/sff.shtml

We will post about any further plant sales as they become available.

We are also open by appointment and welcome inquiries.

We are convinced that as you add native plants to your home landscape you will find your gardens and your lives enriched by the life that comes in response to your efforts.  We wish you joy as you plant for the health of the land.
